Abbey of Val Dieu
"The abbey was built by the Cistercians in the early 13th century. During its turbulent history it succumbed to fire and destruction, and the building was finally reconstructed in 1625.
"After the dissolution of the monastic orders under the French (1796), the monks finally returned to Val-Dieu in 1844 and continued to reside there until 1975.
"Today it is a secular Christian community that perpetuates the spiritual character of the place and the tradition of hospitality. Visitors can taste the local produce here. And, since 1997, the brewing of beer has begun again.” 18 Oct 2012 14:51:54
